For The White Man annon The American Revolution was a glorious war fought to free the American colonies from the British rule. Although we won that war, there were still many people who were not free from our rule. One people in general were the black slaves. The black people had many struggles to freedom which helped shape our American culture today. Three different periods characterized there struggles: the slaves before the Civil War, during Reconstruction, and during the civil rights movements. These three eras mark a pivotal point in the movement and advancement of the black race to social equality. During the time before the Civil War, it was not easy for slaves to organize and rebel against their slaveholders or whites in general. There were numerous laws that specifically took away slaves rights as men. Slaves also feared the whip and even death if they were to act out against their owners. The Declaration of Independence did not apply to many groups and the black race was one of those excluded groups. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness(Primus 295). Thomas Jefferson, having slaves himself, recognized the fact that he could not free the slaves himself in that document. It was difficult enough for him to get the Declaration approved by all of the colonies in itself. In fact the last man to sign the Declaration of Independence did not do so until the year 1778. The slaves were kept in ignorance of any knowledge which might have led to their freedom. Laws forbade reading and writing for slaves. They also forbade anyone to teach a slave to read. To keep the slaves obedient, slaveholders often made an example of a slave by beating him with the cow skin, or even killing him. He[Gore] gave Denby but few stripes; the latter broke away from him and plunged into the creek, and, standing there to the depth of his neck in water, he refused to come out at the order of the overseer; whereupon, for this refusal, Gore shot him dead!(My Bondage and My Freedom 122). This era was definitely a period were the black people had little voice in their future and society. Most people in the north felt differently however. These people were called the abolitionists, and they were dedicated to freeing the slaves. The southern states, strongly disagreed with their views and broke away from the Union to form the Confederate states. Their division led to the Civil War, resulting in freedom for the slaves. And by virtue of the power and for the purpose aforesaid, I do order that all persons held as slaves within said designated States and parts of States are, and henceforward shall be, free; and that the Executive Government of the United States, including the military and naval authorities thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of said persons.(Primus 554). The Emancipation Proclamation that Lincoln wrote was a large step towards the equality of black men and women. It spurred the Reconstruction era that was so vital to black rights movement. The Reconstruction period brought new laws, giving black people the right to own land, and black men the right to vote. The right of citizens of the of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States of by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition or servitude.(Primus 339). It was now amended in the Constitution. While the whites still found ways around these laws however, the black people were still better off than they once were. Some states enforced a Black Code, which forbade a black man the right to vote if he could not read. This was somewhat effective for the southern whites in blocking the black vote, since the blacks were forbidden to learn to read while they were enslaved. With the new black freedom, came organizations against their freedom. The KKK, or Ku Klux Klan, was responsible for many black murders. The cult would often made an example of a black man if he were very outspoken and loud. They would hang a black man in the most popular tree in town as to make sure everyone got the message. Reconstruction brought education to the blacks, but it also brought segregation. Blacks had to use separate schools, buses, and public facilities. Although use of these facilities was far better than slavery, blacks still deserved the same rights

8 Surprising Reasons to Live with Purpose Do you wake up every day with a sense of purpose? I know I often don’t. I open my eyes in the morning more with of a sense that I will soon be dragged around by my â€Å"to do† list. First on my mind is my agenda for the day and all the stuff I need to DO. Or I go to my computer to let my inbox tell me what to do. Sound familiar? Living this way is one sign that I am not in touch with my purpose. And I don’t mean the BIG significant purpose that most of us think of when we think of â€Å"life purpose.† While some people might know what that is for themselves, most of us aren’t sure, or are afraid of not getting it â€Å"right.† Maybe we’re putting too much pressure on ourselves. Purpose is in the moment. Last week I went on a leadership retreat with the Wright Foundation for the Realization of Human Potential where the theme was â€Å"Purpose.† What I learned is that purposeful living is about living every moment with a purpose in that moment. It could be something as simple as giving our gifts or living with aliveness and presence, in service of ourselves and others. Purpose is who we are being, not what we are doing. What a concept. We can actually try on different purposes each day to see which one motivates us to lead a more fulfilled life. One of the moment by moment purposes toward which I gravitate is using my creative talents. To that end, I wrote a little song and made a video that I will share with you here. Despite the spoof on a commercial spot, this song is all about the real, scientifically proven benefits of living with purpose. Statutory measures in GSK nabha Facilities for sitting sec 44 For workers who are to work in a standing position, suitable arrangement for sitting shall be provided in the factories. This enables workers to take advantage of any opportunities for rest which may occur in the course of their work. In GSK with the workshops there are sitting facilities available like desk and benches at the corner of walls and are there in order to enable worker to take rest because of any opportunity which may occur in course of their work. First Aid Appliances: Sec 45 of factories act states that if a factory possesses 150 workers then there should be a first aid box and cupboards equipped with the required contents in every factory. This should be readily accessible to them during all working hours. The number of such first aid boxes shall not be less than one 150 workers in the factory. Now in case of GSK there are two ambulances which are available for 24: 7 within the factory premises. There is small dispensary which has trained doctors, two nurses and a compounder during the factory hours. These doctors and medical staff and other medical staff is available during the night hours. Even there are 10-15 first Aid boxes available in respective departments of HEEP and CFFP i.e. in material department, production department, Administrative buildings, workshops, even in canteen. Canteens : we have in total of 3 canteens in GSK , Hardwar unit. 2 canteens are in HEEP unit and 1 canteen in CFFP unit. In HEEP we have one staff canteen where executives can have lunch and other two canteens were from shop level to supervisor have lunch. GSK offers subsidized canteen facility to its employees. One plate of food cost 50 paisa and one tea two snacks costs 25 paisa. Also there is a officer appointed to check on food quality the canteen is run by organization itself. 4)Shelters rest room and lunch rooms: As per section47 of factories act 1948, GSK have rest rooms, small lunch rooms, gardens where employees/workers can rest during lunch hour or free time. The rooms are cleaned everyday having separate area for drinking water. There is separate water room for water cooler, comfortable table and chairs for rest purpose. 5) Crà ¨ches facilities: Under section 48in GSK NABHA, we have the facility of crà ¨che available for women workers employed in the factory. The crà ¨ches is located within the factory premises near the entrance gate rooms are well adequately lighted ventilated, clean and with a trained woman who looks after the children and infants. The children are given healthy food with milk thrice in a day in morning during noon and once in evening time Welfare officers: AS per sec.49 GSK is having a separate department which looks after the facilities (welfare) provided to workers. Each apartment has set of rooms from 2-5 and employees are charged very minimal amount as rent of house. With the housing, GSK also provide free electricity (certain units), free water facility and free housing maintence etc. Also for the retired employed, GSK also provide them free housing facility for first 2 months of retirement, but other are charged Rs.4000/month as per separate accommodation. Recreational facilities- Not only focusing on productivity, GSK keep their employees engaged in various sports and cultural activities. We have GSK CLUB and STADIUM where different activities like sports and swimming are played. In CONVENTIONAL HALL for picture and plays, cultural activities are conducted. On the eve of Independence Day, republic day there are various cultural programs, parade are organized. Beowulf Beowulf was written during the Anglo-Saxon time period. Beowulf is a story about a young warrior and his quest through life. Some people consider Beowulf a tragic hero, and some people just consider him a hero period. Whether Beowulf is a tragic hero or not, he fights many great battles. The reason Beowulf fights stays basically the same but it changes a little. In the beginning of the book, Beowulf goes to help the Danes out by killing Grendel. Grendel is a ferocious monster that has been killing the Danes in the mead hall (115). During this time period, warriors will celebrate their victories and tell of their accomplishments by singing. This social gathering has started bothering Grendel because he can hear all the noise and happiness coming from the mead hall. This is making Grendel jealous because he is a descendant from Cain, and knows he will never feel happy (106). Grendel goes into the mead hall at night, and he begins killing everyone in there. News of how Grendel is murdering the Danes starts to spread all over. When Beowulf hears about Grendel, he feels that it is his obligation to stop Grendel from killing anymore. Beowulf leaves to go to Herot to kill Grendel. He is mostly being praised for his long journey to face this terrible monster. Beowulf says, "Grendel is no braver, no stronger than I am! I could kill him with my s word; I shall not" (677). Beowulf feels that he can defeat Grendel even without a weapon. The first night, they have a celebration in the mead hall, and the warriors fall asleep in the hall. Grendel makes his usual nightly visit and finds many victims waiting to be killed (725). To his surprise, he meets his match, which happens to be Beowulf (748). After a brief confrontation, Beowulf rips Grendel’s arm off, and Grendel runs away to die (823). Beowulf is considered a hero now for risking his life to stop Grendel from killing anymore Danes (837). Not only does Beowulf protect all the Danes, he also receives many rewards. Beowulf is doing a good thing, but all his motives are not the most honorable motives. This shows the Pagan values of the time. Materialistic things meant a lot to people during this time. The next day, there is a celebration of Grendel’s death. Beowulf and his group of warriors leave the mead hall to go sleep in their beds (1300).

One of the more concrete evidences that businesses have changed is the way business books were written. Authors of books update themselves on current business trends, and often include new knowledge that can help the businessmen improve their craft and industries. The latest addition to business books by the turn of the 20th century is the wide discussion of technology and technological innovations. This aimed at educating then-businessmen about the digital revolution who, chances are, have not been formally trained yet on the new innovations. (Craiger JP 2006). This change in business books directly affects the way in which business people served their workplaces. They were refreshed and fed with new information that helped them go a step higher into their management. In turn, they helped move up the companies which they serve. The generation of new information enforced an equally new generation of managers, employees, and business movers that changed the face of businesses. Cost-efficiency paved the way for technology Another change in organizations brought about by technology is in the financial aspect. Businesses started to adopt newer technology and bought sophisticated machines because it lowered production costs. Computers, for one, are so effective and efficient that it allowed computation, clerical work, bookkeeping, and other functions to be done by one person—the computer operator—which proved to be more cost-effective rather than hiring three or more persons to manually do the work separately. (Craiger JP 2006) This is true even if in fact computers, when the digital revolution is just starting, costs thousands or even hundreds of thousands for companies to invest on. Companies were thinking long-term. Comparisons between paying different people for different jobs or paying one person to operate a machine which can do different jobs proved that the latter will benefit the organizations more. Despite the high costs the promise of productivity, accuracy, and efficiency was too hard for capitalists to resist, plus the fact that the use of technology brings prestige to the company. Thus, technology and business became an inseparable pair. More sensitivity to customers Different organizations receive and use technology differently. For news organizations such as the CNN, technology is widely of the essence than anything else. But the use of technology in CNN is not a corporate decision alone. As successful media outfits would say, it is still consumer-dependent after all. Because consumers want to get services conveniently, in a way that is readily accessible to them, organizations like CNN subscribe to technological innovations that answer these consumer calls. There is the technology of television, radio, print materials, internet, and even podcasting. These embrace to technology for an industry as old as news is not surprising. The news world, just like any other organizations, is growing more competitive, and companies will need to leverage on these new forms of getting in touch and connecting with the customers, or they will simply lose them. While the isolation of computers and computer operators posed a problem at the onset of technology in companies, the advent of networking allowed for people to get connected and work as teams more easily. Local area networking and internet connectivity allowed for more convenient sharing of information, files, and discussion of projects regardless of their location and time. (Craiger JP 2006) Computer-based trainings also allowed trainers and trainees to undergo sessions without time or geographical constraints. By use of technology in trainings, employees old and new alike are also encouraged subliminally to devote time for learning technological skills to be more productive in their work. (Craiger JP 2006) Another convenience brought about by technology to organizations is the possibility of telecommuting. Thanks to computers and the internet, one can now work from home or from a different location. This also allowed telecommuting employees to go about their other tasks while performing work-related duties, without the time and geographical constraints that normal office work can entail. Work teams One important change that technology brought about is the highlight given on work teams. The connectivity caused by technology allowed employees to exchange and merge ideas, bringing in better ideas that are products of brainstorming. Apart from the benefit it brings to the company, teamwork also encourages goodwill and camaraderie among employees, encouraging them to set themselves into a single goal and work together to achieve this goal for the organization. (Craiger JP 2006) As technology allowed work teams it also allowed for a check and balance in the output of workers. Because employees can give access to their work for others, the time-consuming and money-wasting overlapping and repetitions in jobs done were lessened and even eliminated, saving more resources for employees to devote to other tasks. As an example, in a workplace where there is no technological connectivity one employee-member of a team may have started encoding a document only to find out that another member has already encoded it. This scenario becomes rather unlikely when a company has a structured network where employees can check with files and other employees about work that needs to be done, and those that has already been done. This, in turn, benefited the company more than anything else. The highlight given by technology to the importance of teamwork created a realization for many employees. When on the onset of introducing technology in business the problem was the isolation of the relatively few people who can operate the machines and the isolation of the files in separately stationed machines, networking opened a new frontier where ease of work and interpersonal communication became possible.

Analysing and comparing the representations of Britain and British people, I will be comparing The Full Monty (1997) and Bend it Like Beckham (2002). In the montage of other clips I have watched which are Psycho (1960), Dr No (1962), Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), Snatch (2000) Layer Cake (2003) and finally Bullet Boy (2004). These movies combine in a genre which is social realism and comedy; in my definition this means the everyday situations of a British citizen brought into movies and shown to be aware and have a little bit humour to calm the audience. Looking at the characters in these films from oldest to newest, people have been discriminated by their colour or their ethnicity. Going back to time, black people have been portrayed as the villains and white people as heroes. Comparing to the 21st century of the same genre movies the industries have evolved and this time the there are white people which are the villains and black people which are the heros, for example in Layer Cake the villains were the white people. This had a major impact on the audience by showing that every person should be equally treated, it does not matter of their skin colour or race. Another genre of these films is Romantic Comedy; this genre shows an affect of two genres which has been joined to make a British film. The Full Monty a film by Peter Cattaneo, this film was made after Sheffield was closed down with all the industrial work this happened after Margret Thatcher became prime minister of the UK. People have never expected this kind of situation so the director thought to make a film on a life of an unsuccessful town with unemployed people of what they can do or have done to earn money. This film gives out a message of unemployed workers of how extreme they got just to e arn money to live and feed. This happened because the people living there were unemployed as all the mines was closed because of Margret Thatcher, as the workers did not have any degrees to work in other places they had to try and get any kind of work they can get just to live from it. In the beginning of the film the introduction starts of with the history of Sheffield and tells us what happened during early 70s when Margret Thatcher was prime minister of the UK. In the early 80s people of Sheffield became unemployed and started living on benefits. This creates an affect on how the film is going to start off and also gives an idea of what people did to earn money in them conditions. Comparing to the Sheffield now it is unsuccessful and many people live in benefits with no qualifications. This affects with people as they would want to come and join in other citys to earn money, also it would make the town less populated with many waste materials. In the movie now it shows an opening of the town with 3 people stealing from a mining factory. They got an idea from a mens stripping club to employ themselves to be earning money, this shows that many people were desperate to earn money and they took any opportunities that came to them. Camera angles have many meanings behind the characters representation because it shows the sympathy from sounds to camera shots. In this film many angles are based on long shots because when they are stripping they would be in a line to strip. In a single man shot they would use medium close up to present that they are the ones who are talking. People who have been unemployed from a long time did not have enough qualifications to do jobs such as business man, teacher and etc. This made Sheffield a very poor town in terms of its state. Going on to the peoples status it has been constructed in the characters via what they do, what they wear and their living environment. Looking at The Full Monty classification plays the most important role because the characters were stealing in the beginning of the movie which shows that they are homeless and are in need of money. Introducing Bend it Like Beckham, directed by Gurinder Chadha was a big super hit by representing the social realism in Britain with a different culture but the same everyday problem. This film was made for people who wanted to know the everyday life of a citizen in Britain and what can happen in an everyday life. It was also made for people to see how different culture is with Britain. In the opening of Bend it Like Beckham the main character dreams about playing with England one day and meeting David Beckham. As in The Full Monty the opening includes information about Sheffield in the past and later on shows the present day in Sheffield and how people live there. The opening includes father, son and friend stealing from a mining factory to live off and to feed them selves. In the film Britain was represented as less employment with more people leaving the city. The British citizens were free, no employment and willing to do any job which comes just to live with their familys, the film also includes lies with their own family. Comparing with Bend it Like Beckham Britain was represented as independent with many cultures ling in Britain itself. British people were represented as independent, could do anything and go anywhere so it can be a free country. Bend it Like Beckham includes Punjabi cultured music which is called Bhangra to show what the family is like and which culture living in Britain. The music which plays in Bend it Like Beckham is very slow and sad which shows that in the movie there are a bit sad moments. This shows Britain as a multi cultured country with an Asian area location which the film is set. In comparison to The Full Monty the music is RB and Reggae to make them strip following the music. As for the location it was really perfectly set in Sheffield as what can the everyday life could be if there is no work to do and how desperate they were for working. This suggests Britain was a country with less work and more people unemployed. In Bend it Like Beckham the main characters were females because the girl loved football and wanted to play for a team one day but her parents did not let her because she was a girl in an Indian family. Indian families always stereotype with their daughters because they always want them home early, look out for them and they always start to worry about their daughters if their late. Indian families treat females differently because they are over protective and more caring with their daughters. The female characters were shown playing football when the men do it the most. Comparing with The Full Monty the males were doing stripping rather than females doing it just to earn money and the females were doing other jobs to earn money for their family. Bend it Like Beckham explores a different world to that explored in The Full Monty because Bend it Like Beckham looks at life of a different culture family living in Britain. The Full Monty looks at life with no work and what can happen when youre really desperate for working. Britain has been given an impression of independence and free to go any where, the issues in Bend it Like Beckham are very different to The Full Monty but they are in the same genre. These films are different to each other because social realism can include many everyday problems and put into movies. Britain and British people have similarities and difference, as Britain is independent and British people would enjoy the freedom and be independent to do anything they would like. I think there are representations to show people how they can be aware of everyday problems and what can a person do to just to earn a bit of money and living it off. The normal things in Bend it Like Beckham are; the parents not wanting the child to do anything that they do not like and the children telling lies to their parents. As for The Full Monty normal things are being unemployed and looking for a job or willing to take any job. I think that Britain has been represented as a multicultural country which because it shows an everyday problem of citizens in Britain. From experiences of my life I have faced a lot of social problems and racism because I was a non British citizen. In my opinion every non British citizen has faced racism. These representations showed in the movies are very realistic as these days there are many different cultures such as Asian, African, American and etc. They are all joint together as friends, this show that as a British citizen anything can happen in an everyday life. Media could stereotype anyone as it is a realistic thing, as stereotyping a culture media could promote social realism and make it more interesting for the audience to watch a different cultured familys going threw social realism. My own opinion of representations is; that its the way how people present themselves or their culture in a multicultural environment.

After the attacks on September 11th, the unity between American people became obvious. When I look into people’s eyes, walking by, or sitting in my car, crawling in traffic, never before have I seen so much of this ‘something’, something that is warm†¦ something that says ‘Hello, how you doing?’ The crime rate decreased significantly since the attacks. People understand that there’s something large and significant at stake now – our way of life. American flags are everywhere – in windows, on cars, on people’s clothing. In fact, looking at the overall image of historical development of world powers, the present times are becoming a fixture of the new civic landscap e {Joe Klein}. After the attacks on September 11th, the unity between American people became obvious. When I look into people’s eyes, walking by, or sitting in my car, crawling in traffic, never before have I seen so much of this ‘something’, something that is warm†¦ something that says ‘Hello, how you doing?’ The crime rate decreased significantly since the attacks. People understand that there’s something large and significant at stake now – our way of life. American flags are everywhere – in windows, on cars, on people’s clothing. Some people even have tattoos, showing their pride. These things demonstrate unity and we feel proud to be who we are. This tragic event has brought our nation much closer together, there is an overwhelming sense of togetherness, and the nationalism that is seen is amazing. I would have never believed that these attacks would be from the hands of another human being. I sat down, body and mind in shock. That day, I didn’t leave my bedroom until nine A.M. After-school exercise programs are becoming more popular throughout America. These programs are an excellent way for children to become more active and learn lifetime fitness skills. At one school in Virginia, students not only exercise and eat healthy snacks, they learn lifetime fitness skills such as calculating heart rate and using a pedometer to track their daily steps. Staff members are also involved in the program. Since the implementation of the program, one hundred students have become involved and staff members have lost a total of five hundred pounds (Glod, 2005). These positive results, combined with the growing prevalence of childhood obesity, clearly indicate the need for an after-school program in this district. Proposed Program Description The proposed program will have several components related to exercise participation, healthy eating, health education, and family and staff participation. The exercise component of the program will focus on cardiovascular wellness and incorporate aerobic exercises as well as strength-training activities.
